Our Services

Jacobs are not just a run-of-the-mill jewellers: our reputation spreads beyond Reading and Berkshire. Our bespoke design service will enable you to create the most personal gift of all. Where feasible we repair broken jewellery and can provide estimates on request. We will, where possible, alter sizes of rings and again provide expert advice on the best way to achieve a perfect fit. We will service timepieces and provide estimates where requested. We provide a prompt and efficient service as the best place for jewellery is with its owner, not with us.

Our Resident Goldsmith

Our workshop at our Reading premises is continually busy. Whether it be repairing / altering jewellery or creating new bespoke designs, our Goldsmith and apprentice are available for consultation to provide you with the best advice possible. We occasionally work with silver but specialise in gold and platinum.

Valuation & Purchase

Jacobs are members of the National Association of Goldsmiths and also members of the affiliated Institute of Registered Valuers. We can offer advice on valuing your jewellery be it for probate, insurance or other purposes. Do contact us for details of our service and appropriate fees. On occasions we purchase jewellery and we would wish to see the items in order to make a decision. You may need to leave us your jewellery for a couple of days so that we can fully inspect it. We also sometimes offer part exchange for jewellery.

Precious Scrap Metal

If you have broken or unwanted gold, silver or platinum we may purchase it from you. We will usually make an immediate decision and pay first class prices for it. If you choose, we can also offer you part exchange against a new purchase for your unwanted pieces.

Engraving

We work closely with a traditional hand engraver with our jewellery & silver. For items purchased from us we can provide a fast service: the inside of wedding rings, cufflinks & presentation gifts such as salvers. We can reproduce company logos on silver as well as handwriting which we have used for that extra-special presentation gift. We also offer the ability to deep seal engrave signet rings or cufflinks with your family crest.

Gift Vouchers & Wish Lists

We also offer a flexible gift voucher service. Customers can purchase vouchers from £10 upwards in £5 denominations. They are valid for one year from date of purchase and are personalised for the recipient. We keep track of these on customers’ behalves so that if they collect vouchers from different people, they can be amalgamated into one.

For very particular customers our Wish Lists will let you record your favourite items against your name. We’ll then keep your Wish List safe in the shop – all you have to do is send someone with your name to make your wishes come true!
